Pandas in the Libra Sun

Well, I got lucky. My plan for this post was to put my money where my mouth was and announce my prediction for a Mists of Pandaria drop date: December 18. I was going to promise that if MoP came out any time before Christmas, that I would post a scary picture of myself from my Russian ID card circa 2006. Battle.net announced the date BEFORE I made it to the computer, so no psycho killer-looking ID photo for you! I hadn’t based my guess on any real data, but if the expansion didn’t come out until December, I wanted to be able to say that I was the one that called it. It’s that kind of thinking that keeps me far away from Vegas.

I assume that if you have made it to this blog that you are among the web-connected community and have certainly heard that Blizzard told the world that the fourth World of Warcraft Expansion will come out on Tuesday September 25th. The Twittersphere exploded with posts about which version everyone planned on buying: Standard, Digital Deluxe or Collectors Edition. In spite of the potentially annoying situation of going to an actual (gasp!) store to get the CE, this is my first expansion switch and I want the whole shebang. I want the artwork, I want the CD I will never listen to, I want the box and most importantly I want to stand in line with a bunch of other geeks wearing Alliance t-shirts counting down the seconds until the world can roll pandas.

I know that getting the Collector’s Edition might delay me getting into the game the moment the servers go live… but Diablo III taught me a valuable lesson about that. I told @Ottahz (That’s EJ from Girls Gone WoW) on twitter that “I took a day off for #D3 and took an #error37 to the knee”. Might as well stand in a sweaty line and get to know local WoWers. Do you think there will be costumes?

Of course you don’t have to be in a physical store to share the experience with your community. I bet a bunch of you will get in vent with your guild or keep your twitter feed up watching, posting and replying to the excitement. I’ll be tweeting from wherever I end up that evening. How about you? Which version will you pick up? Any plans to gather with friends physically or electronically?

For Monday Mischief, I have a very special contribution from Styxer. See you then!

  1. Likely the standard digital edition, as the mount and pet are hard to justify for my wallet. That said, if money was no object then I'd get the big sexy box. I've got almost all the others.

  2. I would love to go to the local video game shop and get a Collector's Edition there, but I will probably just do the digital download. I want the mount and pet, so I can still get them with the electronic copy. I'll be off from work on the 25th for sure! I'm very excited to make a Panda and explore all the new content!

I am disappointed that we didn't get to see the creepy Russian ID photo, though! :P

  3. I am a collector of pets and mounts... but I'm not one to actually buy them. That's not true-I get the TCG pets, but mostly cuz those are a bit unique. 10 bucks is the most I will pay, but I usually pick them up for 5. Point is, I'm less excited about the perks and more into the event. That's mostly because I've never experienced something like that before... not about a game anyway. I'm such a freakin' noooooob!

  4. I think I'm going to get the boxed collector's edition this time around. Been playing since 2006 and I've never purchased a Collector's Edition, so I think I deserve it at this point. Looking forward to checking out the Art Book and Blu-Ray "Making of" videos. Probably get the deluxe digital for my other account ;–)

So when do you all think we will get the Pre-MoP Cataclysm patch that puts some of the stuff in for us to prepare for MoP like the new talent point system and such?

  5. A month. That's my guess, but seems like they would give us at least that long to figure stuff out. I will be in Oman during that time and won't be online, so I will be stumbling along with that stuff on Sept 25. I guess I could do it in the Beta, but..... /yawn
